Report on NZ's first 'BigEvent'

The Big Event has happened, and judged by all to be a great success!

Abiliquip was there with a stand promoting our Abiloader and other products.

Highlights for me were:
An inspirational opening address by Paul Gibson, our first Human Rights Commission Disability Commissioner.
He outlined how New Zealand and New Zealanders were not just involved but the prime movers in the establishment of the 'United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities'. This Convention has been hailed as a landmark in the addressing of disabilty issues world wide.

However, he reinforced there was still much to do to improve the quality of life of the disabled, and after celebreating our successes we needed to get on and tackle the many issues we still face.

It was great to see a large number of families and carers at such a show seeing for themselves what is available and how it may help.

It was great to see some of the quiet heroes who have been working in the community for so long gain some recognition for their efforts with the awards.

The Auckland/Disability Providers Network put together this first show mainly with an Auckland region focus. But I am pleased to say that the second event looks like moving to a wider focus, incorporating some other conferences and wider industry applicability.

Watch out for the 2013 one, at a similar time, around March 2013
